Viu Manent’s Secreto honored in the Collective Work SECRETO, by Chilean visual artist María Luisa Portuondo
August 2018
The itinerant display came to the city after being presented in Tokyo and Beijing and will continue on to Moscow as part of a global tour.
The Secreto installation consists of anonymous secrets collected by the artist in each country she visits and is ultimately expected to contain 3,000 ‘works’, individual envelopes with a secret inside each. Maria Luisa Portuondo is planning to make a book out of the ‘secret works’ to leave a permanent record of this itinerant, interactive art installation and to honor those who engaged with it in the world’s leading cities.
The work opened with an installation on Donghu Lu Street itself—the portable wall where the artist had hung hundreds and even thousands of envelopes containing anonymous secrets that she collected during her presentations around the world. With the Urbancross center as a backdrop, the audience explored the scene while having the opportunity to taste wines that serendipitously bear the same name as the exhibition—Secreto Sauvignon Blanc and Secreto Malbec—and are produced by the show’s sponsor, Viu Manent.
